Recipes With Milk And Bananas
Banana milk is an easy, dairy-free milk that you can blend together in just minutes! It’s perfect for those who need a low-fat and nut-free option, and it tastes totally delicious.
What is banana milk? It’s made by blending a ripe banana and water together, into a creamy, milk-like consistency. When you use a ripe banana, it’s naturally sweet and breaks down quickly in the blender.

This is not to be confused with Korean banana milk, which is a banana-flavored dairy milk often made with banana juice concentrate and/or artificial flavors.
Bananas In Milk
It’s vegan. This type of dairy-free milk is popular among the vegan community, particularly for those who need nut-free options. You can serve it over cereal, just like you would almond milk or oat milk.
It’s easy to make. All you need is 2 ingredients and roughly 1 minute of effort to make this non-dairy milk option.
It’s allergy friendly. This recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, soy-free, and more, so it’s a great option for those with limited food choices.
Ingredient Korean Banana Milk
All you need for this recipe is ripe bananas and water. If you want to get creative with it, you can also add a splash of vanilla extract, a pinch of cinnamon, or maple syrup, for extra flavor.
Note: This is not the type of flavored milk you’ll want to make a large batch of, unless you’re going to drink it quickly, because the bananas will start to turn the milk brown over time. After 30 minutes or so, the banana milk will start to look like chocolate milk!
Because of this, you may not want to use this recipe for meal prep. It’s more of a recipe that you make in a pinch, when you want to use the milk right away.

With that being said, you can store the milk in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2, if you don’t mind the color difference. You will need to shake it before serving again, as separation is normal.
• Add sweetness. You can add a splash of maple syrup (or honey, if you’re not vegan) to this recipe, if you prefer a sweeter drink.
• Cook your oatmeal with it. Use banana milk instead of water, for added sweetness and nutrition. You can also use it to make overnight oats.
Korean Banana Milk
• Use it in a smoothie. This isn’t necessary in a smoothie that already calls for banana, like my peanut butter banana smoothie, but you can always add the extra banana flavor, if you’d like to!

I definitely was one of those kids who didn’t like the regular “white milk”. But I could drink any flavored milk, particularly banana milk, non-stop.
I loved the flavor so much. You see, banana was a luxury food when I was a child. (So was the milk!)

I also particularly loved the banana milk container, which resembles Korean earthenware – hangari, where you store gochujang and kimchi etc. It was just perfect for my little hands to grip. I felt richer when I was holding on to it! Lol.
Anyway, Korean banana milk has been around for more than 40 years now. And, if you’re an avid K-pop fan, I’m sure you’ve seen Korean idols drink it on TV a lot. So what’s the deal? Here goes.
In essence, Korean banana milk (banana uyu, 바나나 우유) is banana flavored milk. It was first introduced in 1974 by Binggrae and it’s been a steady seller ever since.
Bananas In Coconut Milk (kluay Bod Chii)
Binggrae banana milk contains 85% milk, purified water, sugar, 0.32% banana juice concentrate, carotene, artificial flavors – banana and vanilla. This composition may differ if it is made for export as each countries customs regulations are different. Also, they may have to be adapted for international shipping.
There are other banana flavored milks in Korea and each brand’s ingredients vary. But by far, the most popular banana milk is made by Binggrae. (FYI, If Binggrae sounds familiar, it is also famous for melona – Korean honeydew melon ice pops.)
Check your local Korean grocers! You might be able to find it if you’re very lucky. Not all Korean grocers sell this. Even I couldn’t get it!

My local Korean grocer owner told me that it was due to the strict Australian customs regulations. In case you’re wondering, the above picture was taken by my sister in Korea at my request. 😁
If all fails, try it when you visit Korea next time. Of course, you can always make a healthier version of it at home using my recipe below. 😉

It is best to consume the milk immediately as you will notice the separation and discoloration as time goes by. But if you must store it for later, refrigeration for up to 2 days is OK. Just shake the milk very well before you drink it.

How To Make Banana Milk Tutorial
So to be kinder to my wallet, I’ve been making my own homemade banana milk! While it involves me having to wash my blender, I’m ok with it because looking at their ingredient list, mine is much shorter as it doesn’t have to be shelf-stable so I don’t feel as bad drinking wayyyy too much of this banana flavored milk.
If you’ve never heard of banana milk and stumbled upon my post randomly, here’s what it is! Korean banana milk (or banana uyu, 바나나 우유) is a processed milk that was released in June 1974 by Binggrae.
It was made to reflect the government’s policy at the time to encourage milk consumption to foster the dairy industry. Banana was the desired fruit at the time and so, banana milk was born! Over time, different flavours have been introduced and Binggrae’s Strawberry Milk is a contender for my #1 spot!
