Fluffy Slime Uk Recipe Without Borax
Looking for a fun variation on the super simple slime recipe? Try this awesome fluffy slime recipe for extra big amounts of sensory playtime fun!
Earlier this year I published our Easy UK Slime Recipe which I was thrilled to have finally made with the kids and we have since made lots of variations, including this Galaxy Slime version, which was fun!

I heard that adding shaving cream to the usual recipe would increase the volume of the slime and make it super fluffy to play with. Well, we had to experiment with that idea right away of course!
How To Make Slime (and Why Your Kids Are So Obsessed With The Stuff)
What we discovered was that it didn’t really matter how much shaving cream you add, it still works fine. Indeed, the more you add the bigger and better it gets!
Contact Lens Solution (there are various types of this so if you click the link to the one we used you will find it works perfectly! If you can’t choose this one, make sure the one you buy contains boric acid in the ingredients list. It may also be described as a “buffered solution.” It simply won’t work without it.)

Into a clean bowl add 1 cup of the PVA glue and 1 teaspoon of the Bicarbonate of Soda. Mix them together.
If you want to add colouring this is the best time to do it. Dip a matchstick or skewer into gel food colouring to pick up a blob, then mix it into the glue and bicarb mixture until it has fully integrated.
Next add 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution and mix with a spoon until it starts to come away from the edges of the bowl with a stringy consistency, and clumps together.

At this point add anywhere between 1-4 cups of shaving cream to the mix and keep on mixing until it becomes as fluffy and wonderful as your heart’s desire! You could even add more than this but then I think you would also want to add another few drops of the contact lens solution to balance it out and keep it super stretchy too.
The good thing about making slime is that it doesn’t have to be too exact to still work, so there’s definite room for experimentation here!
We coloured our fluffy slime recipe with pink food colouring and a huge heap of fine pink glitter too which added a little extra WOW!

They really enjoyed the size and fluffiness of this and of course all wanted to have their own batches in their favourite colours too!
Having never made slime before earlier this year I will gladly say this is now in my absolute Top 10 favourite Sensory Play Ideas and is also wonderful for Fine Motor Skills development too. It doesn’t quite match play dough yet, not yet at least, but has many wonderful benefits for sure!

I have several slime recipes on the blog (I’ll link them all at the bottom of this post) but one variation we have not yet made is fluffy slime!
This version of slime is fun because the magic ingredient is shaving cream- aka fun in a can- and it comes out a bit softer and a bit lighter than regular slime.

You only need four ingredients to whip this up and I bet your kids love it. Please note this recipe worked perfectly for me- I even did a video to show you exactly how it comes together- but note at the end of the day slime is still science. You may need to try a little more of this or that to make yours perfect.

The second note is that this recipe does require contact lens solution. I think some slime experiments fail because of the brand of solution- you do want to look for boric acid on the ingredients list. The Walmart brand solution (pictured below) for roughly $2.50 for two large containers works perfectly for me. I have heard good reviews from readers on the Target brand solution as well.
One last note- I tried to find unscented shaving cream but this is the only one available at my store. My children and I smell like a mixture of men’s aftershave and Pine Sol now so it is totally worth looking for the unscented if you can find it. 😉
You can see from my video below my slime is super sticky after putting in the first tablespoon of saline solution but more mixing and a bit more contact solution solves that problem.

Also I made this recipe several times before posting and used clear glue and regular school glue from Elmer’s randomly and both worked equally well. I think I prefer the clear because the colors come out a bit more vivid but really it doesn’t matter. My daughter has been bugging me for the past month to make homemade slime with her. I was hesitant. There are so many DIY slime recipes and homemade gak and goop out there and I just did not know where to start. I didn’t want a big mess and I didn’t want to have to go search for expensive or hard to find ingredients just for this one little slime recipe. So I did a huge Pinterest search. I tried a couple of other recipes and ended up with an unwanted yucky mess. FINALLY, I found a great recipe for homemade fluffy slime that only uses 3 ingredients! And it’s not super messy AND the end result is not sticky–yes, I said NOT STICKY. Hallelujah. So I’m passing this easy slime recipe on to you (thank you very much!) so you don’t have to go through what I did. Here’s how to make easy 3 ingredient fluffy slime that is quick and NOT sticky. But beware, your kidlet is not the only person who is gonna want to play with this stuff. I’ve found DIY fluffy slime to be very mesmerizing to play with too.
The other good thing about this fluffy slime is that it only takes a few minutes to make and none of the ingredients are hard to clean up or find.

How To Make Fluffy Slime Without Contact Solution
2 1/2 TB of contact saline solution with boric acid (you may need a little more solution depending on the consistency of your slime)
You will need a medium-sized bowl, a stirring tool (we used a plastic spatula), a measuring cup, a Tablespoon, and some food coloring to add a pop of color to your slime.
Add a few drops of food coloring to the mixture. We usually use 2-3 drops, it just depends on how dark you want the mixture to be.
Slime Activator List For Making Your Own Slime
Measure out the shaving cream into the cup, and dump it into the bowl. There is no need for this to be precise, just get it as close as you can.
Add the contact solution a little bit at a time. This is what keeps the fluffy slime together and helps it not be sticky. It’s very important that you use contact saline solution that contains boric acid. Use more or less as needed for your slime.

Continue to stir the mixture until it doesn’t stick to the edge of the bowl anymore. The slime should start to clump together and form a ball.
