Lego Building Recipes
Seriously, young and old alike seem to enjoy playing with these simple stacking blocks. LEGOs are the gift of choice for Christmas at our holiday gatherings. Sure wish I had invented them, don’t you?
You will need those LEGOs in a bit, so tell the grands to bring theirs or have a stash of your own available to use. The ones in the picture are LEGO DUPLOs which have a larger sized block. They work wonderfully for younger children. Even the larger grands still like playing with LEGO DUPLOs occasionally (but prefer their smaller blocks).

For these cookies I used the original Rice Krispies Treats Recipe found on their website. You can find that recipe by clicking here. This recipe is a three ingredient marvel that has stood the test of time. It is quick, easy and oh, so good.

Melt the butter and add the marshmallows. Stir until combined. I always use the mini-marshmallows because I keep them on hand and they melt so quickly, but the large work as well.
Next, pour in the Rice Krispies. Stir until mixed then scoop out the gooey mess into a greased 9x13 inch pan. I spray my hands with a bit of the non-stick cooking spray and pat the treats down firmly. This makes them more compact so they work better for decorating.
Let the cookies cool and set up well before cutting them into bars. These bars were cut to be about 1 ½ inches wide by 3 inches long. You could also make them square or whatever size you want to look like the various LEGO block sizes.

I used approximately 4 teaspoons of milk to each 1 cup of powdered sugar I used to make a simple frosting with a nice spreading consistency. You will have to experiment a bit and add a bit more milk or a bit more powdered sugar to get that good consistency.
Separate the frosting into four bowls. Add Food Coloring to each one and make red, green, yellow and blue frosting. Stir and add more Food Coloring until you get the deep colors that look like the colors of LEGOs.
Frost the top of the Rice Krispie bars. I tried to get the frosting to have straight edges as much as possible.

For this sized cookie, choose 8 M&Ms in the same color as the frosting you are using. You can use 4, 6, 8 M&Ms as studs depending on the size of your cookie.
I placed a small amount of frosting on top of each M&M and set them in two rows of 4 on top of the frosted bar. The frosting then ran down over the M&M and melded it to the cookie. Looks cool, huh?
This worked fine, but next time I may actually skip that step and just set the M&Ms directly on top of the cookie without using any frosting on top of it. If you do that, just be sure to use the same color M&Ms as the frosting and put the “M” downwards so it doesn’t show.
