Cherry Note: Dark sweet cherries are a type of cherry that is often sold frozen. Despite the name, they don't contain any added sweeteners. A 12-ounce bag will provide close to 2½ cups of frozen cherries, and a 16-ounce bag will provide a little over 3 cups. If you opt to use other cherries, you might need to adjust the sweetener and lemon juice, to taste. And if you use fresh cherries, you might need to adjust the chia see amount, too.

Chia Note: You can easily adjust the thickness of this jam. Simply add more chia seeds if it doesn't set up enough. They will absorb moisture even if the mixture is chilled. But if you add a few too many chia seeds and it sets up too much, just add a splash of juice or water.

Love how the same mixture is used for the base and crumbly topping. Handy – and fast to make!

Buttered Toast And Jam

These are deliciously buttery crumble bars that are perfect for any occasion. You’ll love the combination of the sweet fruity jam filling sandwiched between the oatmeal cookie base and the crumbly golden topping.

And you’ll especially love how quick these are to get in the oven! Similar jam bar recipes call for softened butter to be creamed with an electric beater (like for oatmeal cookies) or rubbed into flour using your fingers (like for shortbread).

In contrast, my recipe starts with melted butter which is just mixed with a wooden spoon with oats, flour etc. I’ve made it the standard way, and my way, and the difference is barely discernible.

While these are made with raspberry jam, it can be made with any jam flavour your heart desires. Strawberry, blueberry, marmalade, apricot!

These really might be one of the fastest bars ever to make. Well, the 5 Ingredient Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars are a hot contender for the World’s Speediest Bars too. 🙂

Or, for something different, serve them as dessert, warm like apple crumble with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. YES!

1. Crumble topping – The mixture will be a bit clumped together so use your fingers to crumble it onto the top.

I believe you can make great food with everyday ingredients even if you’re short on time and cost conscious. You just need to cook clever and get creative!Directly after the wedding, we drove down to Charlottesville, VA to stay at The Farmhouse at Veritas, a beautiful bed and breakfast at one of the area’s localwineries.

Cherry Jam Almond Crumble Breakfast Bars

We spent two days there, and I’ve never felt more relaxed or spoiled. It was the perfect getaway after a hectic few weeks of wedding planning. We did absolutely nothing. It was glorious. I highly recommend doing nothing every now and then.

Eating was the primary activity of the day and we had lots of opportunities to do it. My favorite meal was breakfast. Every day, wewerespoiled withcomplimentary sparkling wine (which promptly made me feel like taking a nap directly after breakfast), freshly squeezed orange juice, flaky croissants, and our choice of either a savory or sweet breakfast.

Connor and I would always get one of each and share them equally. The thing I loved the most about the sweet breakfasts were that they were usually pancakes or French toast, and they werealwaystopped with some sort of fun compound butter.

Salted caramel butter on banana pancakes? Yep. Chocolate butter to accompany the croissants? That happened too. And then, of course, fresh strawberry-flecked butter for French toast.

After getting home, I knew I had to recreate the idea in some form and this strawberry jam French toast came into being. Each piece of French toast is actually made up oftwo slices of enriched bread layered with strawberry preserves.

My biggest recommendation for this recipe is to useslightly stale Brioche or Challah bread. Stale bread will hold together better than fresh bread.

The Breakfast Toast We Love The Most: Jam, Jelly, And Joy

This recipe is naturally egg-free and can be made nut- and gluten-free so they are great for families with allergies in the mix.

The base of this breakfast bars recipe is oats, which makes it a great source of complex carbohydrates and fiber. It also has some protein from nut or seed butter. The sweetness comes from a little honey and the jam layer, but otherwise the ingredients are simple.

TIP: I can almost always make this recipe from ingredients I already have in my pantry and my kids love to help mix up the batter.

Here’s a look at how to make this breakfast bars recipe. Scroll down to the bottom of this post for the full information.

TIP: We love the flavors of peanut butter and jelly, and they come through in this recipe. You can use Sunbutter if you need the bars to be nut-free. I highly recommend serving these with milk—or your own tea or coffee!

You can! Just use instant oats instead of rolled oats and stir the batter together in a bowl. It works really well this way!

Best Jam Recipes

I tend to like these bars chilled so I recommend storing them in the fridge for 3-5 days, though there’s no reason that room temperature in an airtight container wouldn’t work just as well. You can also freeze them, once fully cooled, in a zip top freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Yes! See the recipe and use Sunbutter instead of the peanut butter. It works pretty much the same, though it will
