Recipe Using Angel Food Cake Cubes

Recipe Using Angel Food Cake Cubes

Delicious and Easy Angel Food Cake Churro Bites are a tasty sugar and cinnamon treat topped with glaze that the whole family will love!

Sara Lee sent me some of their new Angel Food Cake to try out, and I’m happy to say that it was super delicious! The best thing about it is it’s thaw-and-serve and allows for quick and easy customization. With it, I decided to try a new recipe and came up with some Angel Food Cake Churro Bites.

Angel

Before I say anything more I just have to tell you my hubby’s response after trying them…He tasted it and said “Oh my heavens, these taste just like Churros!” My response, “That’s what they’re suppose to be!”

Heaven On Earth Cake Recipe

His reply, “I mean, like real churros… from Disneyland!” Needless to say, he REALLLLLY liked them and devoured them pretty quickly. The kids loved them too and kept asking for the “cinnamon treats”. I was happy that we had found another quick and delicious treat to have on Sunday mornings!

SEASON. Once golden brown, immediately put them in the bowl with cinnamon and sugar and toss around. Continue doing this until they’re all done. For even more flavor, mix 1 cup powdered sugar with a tablespoon of milk, mix and drizzle over the bites. ENJOY!

Note: I just fried 2 sides, but feel free to fry more to get a crispier texture. You might want to keep a close eye on them so that they don’t get hard and lose the great fluff of angel food cake.

Frying temperature: Getting the right oil temperature is usually a bit tricky when frying anything. One way I check for the right temperature is to stick the end of a wooden spoon in the oil. If the oil around the spoon bubbles, then it’s ready. If it sizzles to ferociously turn down the heat. If it doesn’t bubble after a second then turn up the heat. Once you think you have the right temp add a “tester” cube. It should take 1-2 minutes on the top and bottom.

Frying Alternative: If you have one, an AIR Fryer, is a great alternative to pan frying. Preheat the air fryer for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Place the cubes in a single layer and spray with cooking oil. Fry for 8-10 minutes, or until they’re golden brown. Repeat with the remaining cubes.

Angel Food Cake: I want to note that I specifically made this recipe using Sara Lee brand Angel Food Cake. Once I finished frying the bites I let them drain on a paper towel. I have had some commenters use other brands of food cake only for their bites to absorb too much cooking oil leaving them unappetizing. Since I have not yet tried this recipe using other brands I recommend sticking to using the Sara Lee brand for best results. If you happen to use another brand with success, please leave a comment.

My new cookbook is the ultimate resource for feeding your friends and family with 200+ simple recipes including videos, tips & more! When my husband and I got married we wanted to host a holiday family gathering each year and we decided on Fourth of July. It’s one of my favorite holidays because of the bbq’s, fireworks, parades and of course the celebration of our independence in this country. Every year we have a bbq at our house with all our favorite food. My grandfather requests this Angel Food Cake Berry Trifle dessert every year and it’s just become a natural must-have for the picnic table this time of year.

Strawberry Angel Food Lush (easy Angel Food Cake No Bake Dessert)

This angel food cake berry trifle is delicious all year round but the bright colors of red and blue makes this a perfect patriotic treat without spending a lot of time making it. Which is just the way I like to cook 🙂

For picnics and larger gatherings I like to layer this dessert in a large trifle dish. That way people can serve themselves, but if you have the time and the dishes, making individual trifle servings would be a pretty option for a smaller gathering!

While we prefer the light texture of Angel food cake, you could also substitute with a pound cake. You need a bit “heartier” of a cake to handle the pudding and layers.

Heavenly Raspberry Cream Angel Food Cake Dessert

Yes! As mentioned, we love the blue and red for Fourth of July but you can definitely use other favorites like blackberries, raspberries, grapes, etc. You can use bananas but be aware they will brown quickly so I would only use them if assembling right before your party.

The creaminess of the buttercream together with the strawberries and cake really are a divine combination.

Red White And Blue Berry Trifle

I was in charge of dessert for my friend’s baby shower recently (come on out and play, Baby W!) and I couldn’t really nail down what I wanted to do.

I thought about cake, but then we’d have to bring a knife and spatula just to serve it. Plus, we were going to be outside on some picnic tables, where would be place the knife for safe keeping?? Mmmm.. better not.

My next thoughts were cupcakes. Fun, just like cake but no knives required. The cupcake train really did take a long trip but the final stop happened when my daughter had been sick, she wanted me 24/7 and I felt like I shouldn’t be baking for other people in my kitchen.

Strawberries And Cream Angel Lush

So, I decided store bought angel food cake, sliced strawberries and some vanilla buttercream in individual cups (no knives required. ?) were going to have to do.. but they did so much more than just work!!

The first thing you’ll need are the ingredients. For the cups, you’ll need an angel food cake (I bought mine at Walmart, thank you grocery pick up!) and strawberries. Butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla are the ingredients for the buttercream.

Angel

First, make the buttercream. It is as easy as throwing all of the ingredients into a bowl and turning on your mixer. If you find the buttercream slightly stiff, just add a splash of milk. If you find that it is too soft, add a little bit more powdered sugar. This buttercream is very forgiving.

The next step is to cut the Angel Food cake. I sliced the cake all around into about 1 inch slices. I then took each slice and cut it into 4 strips, then each strip into cubes.

Next I cut up the strawberries. I used 1 lb of strawberries to make about 15 individual cups. I could have used more strawberries, though. I don’t think that there can ever too many strawberries!

To cut the strawberries, I first cut off the stem. I then proceeded to cut the strawberries into 1/2 inch cubes. I found that if the strawberry was too small, it almost disappeared against the cake and buttercream. 1/2 inch cubes of strawberry was the sweet spot, not to big, not too small.. just perfect.

Angel Food Icebox Cake

To make these Angel Food Cake and Strawberry Cups it is very important to use a quality plastic cup. Very hard, heavy duty, CLEAR cups are a must. None of those kind of clear, flimsy cups for this. Mason jars would also be very fun!

I tried building each cup individually at first, but then found it was much easier to do five or so at
