These cookies are just like my homemade fudgy brownies but in cookie form. This recipe also uses two different kinds of chocolate, so they’re extra chocolatey andtaste just like the corner piece of a super fudgy brownie.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies (brookies)
Want your cookies to be perfectly round? I suggest using a cookie scoop and rolling them into balls with your hands before baking them. Once they come out of the oven and are still warm, use a spoon to help re-shape any cookies that aren’t perfectly round. I do this with all of my cookies and it works perfectly!
You can let the cookie dough chill in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you do, the dough will be pretty firm, so I suggest letting it sit on the counter for 10 to 15 minutes before you try to scoop it.

Yes! Walnuts and / or chocolate chips can be added to these chocolate brownie cookies. Use 3/4 cup of chocolate chips or1/2 cup chopped walnuts. If you want to use both, use 1/2 cup of each.

Semi-sweet chocolate: I suggest using bars of chocolate for this recipe and not chocolate chips, Baker's or Ghirardelli are great options! To melt the chocolate, chop it into small pieces, place it in a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring well after each increment until completely melted and smooth.

To add chocolate chips or chopped walnuts: Use 3/4 cup of chocolate chips or 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. If you want to use both, use 1/2 cup of each.
If making ahead: Cookie dough may be covered tightly and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If the cookie dough is too firm to scoop, let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
Freezing instructions: Scoop balls of the cookie dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for several hours or until the cookie dough is completely frozen, then store in a freezer bag or container. When you're ready to bake the cookies thaw the dough overnight in the refrigerator or bake from frozen for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Melt 2/3 of the chocolate chips, oil, and butter in a medium bowl. Whisk in the milk until fully combined and smooth.

4. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, whip sugar and eggs on medium-high speed until very thick and pale. Add the melted chocolate mixture and whisk by hand until smooth.

5. Fold in the flour mixture using a spatula until well combined. Fold in the remaining 1/3 of chocolate chips and chopped pecans, if using.
6. Using a tablespoon or a cookie scoop, divide portions of the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets – you should get 20 cookies total. Bake in the oven until the chocolate brownie cookies are puffed and covered with large cracks, about 15 minutes, rotating the baking sheets halfway through baking to ensure even cooking for all cookies.

SAM’S TIP: Don’t over-heat your chocolate when melting! Cut your butter into pieces and chop your chocolate into pieces as well, and then microwave in 25-second increments, stopping to stir really well after each increment and heating only until the butter and chocolate are melted. If you heat these too long in the microwave without stirring, you run the risk of seizing your chocolate, which means you’ll have to start right back at the beginning.

SAM’S TIP: Chilling the dough is critical!Just 20-30 minutes is enough with these cookies. Don’t skip this step, or your cookies won’t be as thick and chewy as they should be.
