The Perfect Storm Recipe

The perfect storm is a smooth strawberry rum cocktail that you need to have in your life! Super easy to make and tastes amazing!

If you read our post about the Restorative Basil Drop Cocktail you saw that we are trying to push ourselves and try new Alchemy Bar Cocktails.

We always spend time at the Alchemy Bar when cruising with Carnival but I fell into a rut. I was only ordering my favorite drinks which are delicious but I realized there was an entire Alchemy Bar Menu that I hadn't tried.

Straight And Marrow's The Perfect Storm Cocktail

The Perfect Storm was a cocktail I kept hearing people order but had never tried. For some reason, I thought it was going to be similar to a Dark and Stormy or a less fruity drink. When I finally slowed down and read the ingredients I realized I had missed a killer strawberry rum cocktail.

There have been some questions about Carnival Alchemy Bar Prices. During our cruise on the Carnival Panorama in February 2020 all of the Alchemy Bar cocktails were $10.95 a drink.

Alchemy Bar drinks are included in the Carnival Cheers package which is great! We are excited to try the Carnival Cheers Drink Package on our next cruise.

The Perfect Storm Cocktail Recipe

If you want to add a bit of fun to this cocktail you can light rosemary on fire and place it in the glass to get the smoky flavor (check the video above to see how it is done). You can also sprinkle cinnamon over the drink.

For a fancy party trick sprinkle cinnamon over a lighter and watch it sparkle and flare. Please make sure if you are going to use fire with your drink that you are safe!!!

Stemless martini glass – You can also serve the Perfect Storm in a rocks glass or double the recipe and serve it in a larger glass. This recipe could easily be made larger to serve in a pitcher for parties. Just slide the serving number up on the recipe card below to change to how many servings you would like to make.

Kraken's Perfect Storm Dinner

If you want to get a bit fancier you can light a piece of rosemary on fire. Let the rosemary smoke into the glass while you are preparing the drink.

While there’s no one bartender to credit for the creation of the Perfect Storm, we can safely connect this cocktail to its predecessor, the Dark ’n Stormy. This slightly spicy, slightly sweet rum highball is a consummate summer classic, and is closely related to its vodka equivalent, the Moscow Mule. It’s a straightforward mix of rum (or vodka in the Moscow Mule case), ginger beer and lime juice. This simple template allows plenty of tweaks and variations, as with the Perfect Storm.

In this aromatic riff, spiced rum replaces the normal Goslings blackstrap, and adds a layer of warming spices to the classic combination of ginger beer and fresh lime juice. Popular brands include Kraken, Sailor Jerry and Boukman Botanical Rhum, which is made from sugar cane rather than molasses, in the rhum agricole style. Angostura bitters punch up the overall intensity, adding even more aromatics and spice.

Of course, with any Dark ’n Stormy variation, a key ingredient is the choice of ginger beer. Fever Tree is usually easy to find and is a reliable standby, beloved by bartenders, but there are plenty of other options these days. If you want to really show off, you can try making your own ginger beer.

Like its predecessors, the Perfect Storm is complex and refreshing while still being a breeze to put together. Try serving this lush crowd pleaser at your next barbecue, dinner party or other get-together. You might find it surpasses the original for your tastes.
