Fried Rice Vegetables Recipe Chinese

Packed with veggies, this Chinese egg fried rice is healthier and tastier than the restaurant take-out version. A great way to use up leftover rice and whatever veggies you have hanging around in the fridge.

We all recognize restaurant Chinese vegetable fried rice with those sad little carrot and pea bits buried in a mountain of rice. Tastes good, yes, but the vegetable part is underwhelming to say the least.

This recipe goes a long way toward a better balancing act with 5 cups of chopped vegetables in 3 cups of cooked rice. In fact, it’s a complete meal as is. Or you can add an extra protein if you like.

Chicken Fried Rice (quick Flavorful Recipe)

I keep the flavors simple with just soy, sesame oil and garlic. You can certainly vary the seasonings, though, with the suggestions below.

I often make extra rice to have leftovers for this dish. It freezes perfectly in a sealed container or zipper bag. And I love rummaging through the fridge to see what [wilting] vegetables I can throw in.

Bottom line: Chinese veg fried rice is endlessly versatile. So quick and easy and better than take-out. And definitely on the healthier side so many veggies.

Chinese Spicy Vegetable Fried Rice

Best rice to use: Any long or medium grain rice will do fine. I like Jasmine the best. Basmati works well too. Here’s a good article ontypes of rice and their usesby Bon Appetit. If you are making it ahead for this dish, make it a little on the dryer side (less water) so the rice grains don’t stick together.

Use cold or leftover rice. Fresh hot rice will make your Chinese vegetable fried rice mushy. If you are making fresh rice, you can cool it down quickly by spreading it out on a baking sheet in a single layer and putting it in the freezer for 10 minutes.

If I’m going for a simple one-dish main meal, I add crumbled tofu (as seen in the pictures) or chicken, beef, shrimp or pork.

Chinese Vegetarian Fried Rice is easy to make at home and doesn’t require any special equipment. You can halve or double this recipe depending on your needs, and it’s ideal for using up leftovers. As far as flavor, it will give your favorite takeout restaurant a run for their money.

Chinese Fried Rice

We love to add a small amount of sriracha for just a hint of spice. If you prefer no heat, you can leave it out. If you want something with a real kick, increase the sriracha and add sliced jalapeno.

If you have a wok, you can certainly use it, but the beauty of this recipe is that it requires no special equipment.

Day-old jasmine or long grain rice will work the best for this recipe. I also recommend rinsing the rice before cooking it and refrigerating it overnight before making fried rice. This will give you the best flavor and texture.

Chinese Vegetable Fried Rice Recipe

Store leftover vegetable fried rice in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. If you add meat to it, use it within 3 days. Reheat the rice in the microwave.

Place the cooled rice into a freezer bag and remove as much air as possible before sealing. Freeze for up to three months. Defrost in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.

Fried rice can be served as a side dish with proteins, along with Air Fryer Orange Chicken, Crispy Honey Sesame Chicken, or Honey Garlic Soy Chicken.

Vegetable fried rice is admittedly not the most popular item at a Chinese restaurant. However, it’s a versatile recipe you can quickly throw together with whatever you have in the refrigerator. It makes a great meatless lunch, side dish, or light meal.

I personally love a good Chinese vegetable fried rice, especially when there’s a variety of vegetables. I like to add flavorful ingredients like shiitake mushrooms, as well as sweet and crunchy add-ins like snow peas and bean sprouts.

Fried rice recipes are a great way to use up leftover cold rice, but what if you don’t have any? Don’t fret, you can make just enough fresh rice for this recipe and use it the same day.

The beauty of cooking at home is that you can put just about anything in your vegetable fried rice. While we provide a basic list of vegetables in this recipe, but you can use any stray carrot, stalk of celery, or half a bell pepper sitting in your fridge.

Fried Rice Without Soy Sauce

Some non-conventional veggies to add include mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, jalapeno peppers (if you want a little spicy kick), or even romaine or iceberg lettuce.

Vegetable fried rice variations are endless, and don’t stop there. Let’s start with preparing the rice. We have slightly different instructions depending on whether you’re using leftover rice, or making rice for the express purpose of this recipe!

Easy Vegetable Fried Rice (better Than Takeout!)

Take your rice out of the refrigerator. Wet your hands, and break up any clumps with your fingers. Set aside on the counter for 1 hour, so the rice can come up to room temperature.

Mix sesame oil, dark soy sauce, soy sauce, salt, turmeric (if using) and MSG (if using) in a small bowl and set aside.

Wash, rinse, and drain your rice, and prepare it how you would normally either in your rice cooker or using our stovetop rice cooking method.To the rice and water, add the sesame oil, dark soy sauce, soy sauce, salt, turmeric (if using) and MSG (if using). Stir until the rice and seasonings are well-mixed. Cook the rice.

Healthy Fried Rice Recipe

After the rice is cooked, leave it out to cool uncovered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with chopsticks or a fork, and turn it out onto a large plate or sheet pan to cool further and dry out slightly. If you cooked the rice properly, you should be able to see individual grains of rice that aren’t too wet.

Dice and chop all of your vegetables, including the onion, carrots, mushrooms, bell pepper, snow peas, and scallions, ensuring they’re all about the same size. The exception is the mung bean sprouts, which just need to be rinsed, cleaned and trimmed. Set the vegetables aside in neat piles.

Heat your wok until it just begins to smoke, and add 2 tablespoons of neutral oil to coat the wok. Pour in the beaten eggs. Scramble them, and when they’re about halfway done, turn off the heat. Use your wok spatula to break the eggs up into smaller pieces, using the residual heat of the wok to just cook them through.
