This chai spice mix is on the spicier side. We like our chai with a bite rather than a sweet spice mix so we added a little extra ground ginger. If you love yourself a sweet chai, try taking out some ginger and adding more cinnamon or even a teaspoon of coconut sugar or brown sugar. Have no shame either way. The taste buds want, what the taste buds want. DO YOU FEEL ME?

The idea of a milky tea is common in the United Kingdom, and after the British colonization of India, it wasn’t too long before Indians made their own version of a sweet and milky black tea, with the addition of spices. And that my friends is where

Similar to my chai spiced coconut milk, this creamy black tea is infused with the best warming spices. But the best part is that it’s quite customizable. Want it spicier? Add a bit more ginger. Looking for a more tea-like flavor? Add in an extra tea bag! However you tweak it, keep comfort and peacefulness in mind – because that’s what a chai latte is all about.

The Best Chai Latte Recipe

Since the base of chai is black tea, it’s best to use a strong and robust type such as Assam or Darjeeling. As for tea bags vs. tea leaves… either one will work! I’m using tea bags for this specific recipe out of convenience, because that’s what I normally have on hand.

But in general, loose leaf teas will produce a much more full-bodied tea. Just be sure to look for smaller leaves that are partially broken. They’ll infuse much easier when simmering in the pot.

Traditionally, whole spices are simmered in the pot. But I’m keeping this recipe simple with ground spices for those who don’t have direct access to the latter. Fret not though, because the results are still a deliciously spice latte!

Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte {starbucks Copycat Recipe}

As you let the black tea simmer with the milk in the pot, brew 2 shots of espresso. Then pour one shot into each mug. Once you’ve finished making the chai latte, pour it over the espresso shots and give it a stir before drinking.

If it’s a warm day and you’d like a refreshing iced chai, all you need to do is prep two cups with ice cubes. After you’ve made the recipe as is, just pour the chai latte over the ice and give it a stir.

Chai

If you’re just one person, save the 2nd half to enjoy later! Store any leftover chai latte in a sealed cup in the fridge for up to 1 to 2 days. When you’re ready to enjoy, you can pop it in the microwave or warm it up on the stovetop.

But for me? Pumpkin just doesn’t do it. I don’t know why, but it never really has. I tried my first pumpkin spice latte a few years ago & was SHOOK when I realized it was actually orange.

Chai Spice Mix Recipe

Single chai spice mix recipe on the internet. As someone who loves super spicy & cardamom-forward chai flavors, many of the recipes I tried just fell a little flat for me. They used tons of cinnamon & tiny little pinches of the other chai spices – I could really only taste the cinnamon.

To create the spicy & bold flavors that I expect when I taste something that is supposed to be chai flavored, I add generous amounts of both ginger & cardamom to this chai spice mix. If you love a spicier chai, this chai spice recipe is for you!

Iced

The beauty of this easy chai spice mix (other than the fact that it smells SO freaking good) is that it’s really, really versatile. It’s perfect for autumn, football season, Thanksgiving pies & baked goods, and any other cozy occasion you can think of!

Homemade Vanilla Chai Latte

We actually recommend adding this homemade chai mix to baked goods recipes, similar to our Chai Scones. If you are hoping to make a true masala chai, you’d want to look for a recipe using whole spices as this mix would likely result in a gritty texture if added directly to a tea or milk mixture. We’d recommend checking out a chai mix from a brand like Tazo tea!
