Strawberry Banana Milkshake Recipe Milk
Since I wrote my How to Make a Milkshake post a couple of years ago, I’ve added a bunch of milkshake recipes to the site, the best vanilla milkshake, my favorite chocolate milkshake, a fabulous strawberry milkshake, and thick banana milkshake.
This shake is rich and creamy, with a perfect balance of banana and strawberry and ideal for cooling you down on a warm day.

It depends on your preferences and your blender. Frozen fruit will yield a thicker, creamier shake, but can make your shake difficult to blend, especially if you are using an older or underpowered blender.
Quick 3 Ingredient Strawberry Banana Smoothie
To soften your ice cream, scoop it into your blender and leave it at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before you add the rest of the ingredients and blend. If your blender is still really struggling, you can also use just a bit more milk until it’s able to blend well.
It’s best to make any milkshake right before you’re going to drink it. While you can store milkshake leftovers in the refrigerator, they will slowly melt and become more like thick strawberry banana milk than a shake. Still really delicious but not the same frosty milkshake experience.
You can make a strawberry banana milkshake without ice cream, but you can’t make *this* milkshake without ice cream. You’ll need to use completely different ingredient ratios. Go check out my Banana Milkshake Without Ice Cream post, and there are instructions in that recipe for adding strawberries.
Power Strawberry Banana Milk Shake
If using a high-powered blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec, absolutely. To change the recipe yield, hover over the serving size in the recipe card below or click if you’re on mobile, and slide the slider.
*Using frozen fruit will give you a thicker, frostier shake but can be a little hard on some blenders. If using frozen strawberry and banana pieces, allow your ice cream to sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before blending, until it just begins to melt. Otherwise, you might have trouble getting everything to blend.

Healthy Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Classic strawberry banana milkshake is the best way to use up the abundance of fresh summer strawberries and ripe bananas. This is an easy recipe that requires only 3 main ingredients, but it’s good to have on hand if you’re not sure what is the best bananas to strawberries to milk ratio!
I have a simple breakfast version, which is more calorie-friendly and healthy, and a ‘dessert’ version with ice cream and whipped cream!

Ingredients ratio: The basic ingredients ratio is 2 large bananas to about 26 oz (750g) and 1 cup of milk. I also like to add some vanilla extract to flavor the milkshake and some sweetener if my strawberries are not super sweet.
Banana Milkshake Without Ice Cream
Sweetener: You can use really any sweetener that you like – sugar / light brown sugar / xylitol as a calorie-friendly option / honey / coconut sugar.
For a more indulgent version: I add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream instead of vanilla extract and sugar and also decorate the top of the milkshake with whipped cream. You can also sprinkle some shaved chocolate or sprinkles on top!

Frozen version: if you would like your milkshake more thick and super cold and don’t want to use ice cream, you can freeze the bananas (and optionally a small portion of strawberries) and blend with the other ingredients. I don’t recommend freezing all the strawberries because there are simply too many. You can use frozen strawberries but defrost them first, them mix them (strawberries and their juices) with the other ingredients.
Diabetic Strawberry Banana Milkshake
You can use a stand blender or a hand (immersion) blender to mix the ingredients. If using a hand blender bear in mind that this recipe yields a lot, the whole milkshake filled the 7 cup (1.8 L) container of my stand blender.
Peel the bananas, cut off the strawberry tops, measure out the milk, add to a blender container and mix with the other ingredients, depending on which version you’re making (vanilla extract and sweetener of your choice for a breakfast version and ice cream for the dessert version). Mix until smooth.

I will keep in the fridge for 24 hours. Tastes the same as freshly made but it will be thicker, so you can dilute it a bit with milk if you wish. Make sure to stir it thoroughly before serving it.
